The District of North Saanich has amended its Fireworks Regulation Bylaw to enhance protection of sensitive habitats and align with best practices in neighboring jurisdictions.

Key changes include:

  • New buffer zones prohibiting the discharge of fireworks within and 200 metres outside the following Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESAs):

    • Chalet Creek
    • Tsehum (Shoal) Harbour
    • Roberts Bay
    • Tseycum Creek
    • Ten-Ten Creek
    • Coals Bay
    • ·∏∞ELSET (Reay Creek)

  • All family fireworks displays now require a permit from the District and must be discharged only in permitted areas and under approved conditions.

These updates reflect the District's commitment to environmental stewardship, public safety, and alignment with regulations in the Town of Sidney. The changes also support wildlife protection, particularly during bird nesting season.
