Who can vote in the election?
There are two types of eligible electors (voters) in North Saanich. Most voters are Resident Electors, while some property owners who live outside of the municipality may be eligible to vote as Non‑Resident Property Electors in the 2026 general local election.
- I live in North Saanich → Resident Elector
- I own property in North Saanich but do not live here → Non-Resident Property Elector

Prefer to vote by mail?
Eligible voters may choose to vote by mail. For information on how to apply, important deadlines, and how mail ballot voting works, visit Mail Ballot Voting.
You are a resident elector if you live in North Saanich.
To vote as a resident elector, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Have lived in British Columbia for at least six (6) months immediately before voting (April 16, 2026)
- Be a resident of North Saanich
- Not be disqualified from voting under the Local Government Act or any other enactment

North Saanich uses the provincial voters list provided by Elections BC as the Official Register of Resident Electors

Important dates:
- The provincial voters list becomes the Official List of Electors on August 26, 2026
- To appear on the official list, you must register by 4pm on August 18, 2026, with Elections BC
Missed the deadline?
- You may still register at the time of voting, provided you meet the eligibility requirements
- You must present two pieces of acceptable identification (see below)
You may be a Non-Resident Property Elector if you own property in North Saanich but live elsewhere.
To vote as a Non-Resident Property Elector (NRPE), you must meet all of the following qualifications:
- Be 18 years of age or older on the day of registration
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Have lived in British Columbia for at least six (6) months (since April 16, 2026)
- Have been a registered owner of real property in North Saanich for at least 30 days immediately before voting
- Not be entitled to register as a Resident Elector in North Saanich
- Not be registered as a Non-Resident Property Elector in relation to any other parcel of real property in North Saanich
- If applicable, have received the written consent of the majority of registered owners on title of the real property
- Be an individual who is a registered owner of the real property and not hold the property in trust for a corporation or another trust
- Not be disqualified from voting under the Local Government Act or any other enactment
- Not have voted previously in this election
North Saanich maintains its own register of Non-Resident Property Electors. This register becomes the official list of Non-Resident Property Electors for North Saanich on the 52nd day before voting day, (August 26, 2026).

How to register
To register as a Non‑Resident Property Elector, you must complete:
- Non-Resident Property Elector Registration Form (Form 7-2)
- Non-Resident Property Elector Consent Form (Form 7-3) (required if there is more than one property owner registered on title)
To ensure your name is included on the official list of electors, you must register by 4pm on August 18, 2026.
Important dates
- August 18, 2026 (4pm) - Deadline to register for inclusion on the final register
- August 25, 2026 - Last day Non‑Resident Property Elector registrations will be accepted by North Saanich in advance of Voting days, (October 7, 14 and 17)
- August 26, 2026 - Official register is established (52nd day before voting day)
Non‑Resident Property Elector registrations will not be accepted between August 26 and October 19, 2026, but will be accepted on voting days, provided eligibility requirements are met.
Missed the deadline?
If you didn’t register by August 18 but meet all Non‑Resident Property Elector eligibility requirements, you can still register at the time you vote.
Submit election documents by email (Non-Resident Property Electors only)
Non-resident property electors may submit required registration documents by email.
The following documents may be required:
- Non-Resident Property Elector Registration Form (Form 7-2),
- Non-Resident Property Elector Consent Form (Form 7-3),
- Copies of acceptable documentation that proves you are eligible to register in relation to real property located in North Saanich. (See instructions on page 2 of Form 7-2)

All voters must prove their identity and eligibility prior to voting. There are 3 options available (details on Elections BC website) as follows:
Option 1
Show one of these pieces of ID:
- A BC driver’s licence
- A BC Identification Card (BCID)
- A BC Services Card (with photo)
- Another card issued by the Government of B.C. or Canada that shows your name, photo and address
Option 2
Show any two pieces of ID or documents that both show your name. At least one must have your current address. Examples include:
- Government-issue identity documents
- BC CareCard
- BC Services Card (without photo)
- Birth certificate
- Canadian Forces Photo Identification card
- Citizenship certificate issued by Government of Canada
- Citizenship or membership cards issued by a B.C. First Nation governing body
- Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence
- Firearms Possession Only Licence
- Citizenship card issued by Métis Nation British Columbia
- Old Age Security Identification card
- Valid current Passport
- Social Insurance Number card
- Indian Status Card (a document, issued by the government of Canada, that certifies that the applicant is registered as an Indian under the Indian Act of Canada)
- Veterans Affairs Canada Health Care Identification card
Other documents
- Property Tax Notice
- Credit card, debit card or bank statement (showing name and address)
- Utility bill such as coaxial cable services, electricity, gas, telephone services, water
- Voter notification card (Provincial where to vote card)
- Car or House insurance papers
- Student ID card
Option 3
Voters who don’t have acceptable identification can make a solemn declaration at the time of voting about where they live – and that they are eligible to vote as a resident elector. The declaration must be witnessed by another eligible elector (the voucher), in the presence of the Presiding Election Official. The voucher must be:
- a registered voter resident in the District of North Saanich, or
- The Presiding Election Official at the voting place.
Vouchers must provide acceptable identification. The voter and the voucher must each make a solemn declaration confirming the voter’s identity and residential address.
Accessibility and assistance
North Saanich is committed to ensuring all eligible voters can participate in the election process.
Accessible voting options
Accessible voting options are available to support voters with a range of needs:
- Accessible voting locations: Advance and general voting places are physically accessible.
- Curbside voting: If you are unable to enter a voting place, election staff can bring a ballot to you outside the building. View information about curbside voting.
- Assistance marking your ballot: You may request help from an election official or bring a trusted support person to assist you. A solemn declaration is required by the person who is assisting the voter to maintain the secrecy of the ballot.
- Language and communication support: You may bring a translator, interpreter, or support person to assist with communication during the voting process. A solemn declaration is required by the person who is translating for the voter to maintain the secrecy of the ballot.
- Mail ballot voting: If voting in person is not accessible or convenient, eligible voters can request a mail ballot. View information regarding how to apply and vote by mail.
