The Sidney/North Saanich RCMP has announced a change to its official language designation that will take effect on September 30, 2026.
Following a review conducted under the federal Official Languages Regulations, the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP Detachment will transition from providing bilingual services to providing services in one official language. The review, completed using 2023 census data and service demand information, is part of a national assessment that takes place every 10 years.
Beginning September 30, residents who wish to receive RCMP services in either official language may do so through the West Shore RCMP Detachment, located at 698 Atkins Avenue, Victoria, B.C. Services in the official language of choice will be available in person, by telephone, in writing, and online through the West Shore Detachment.
According to the RCMP, this change is one of several official language designation updates taking place across British Columbia as a result of the review. The Sidney/North Saanich Detachment is among six RCMP offices in B.C. changing from bilingual to unilingual designation, while 51 RCMP offices are changing from unilingual to bilingual designation.
