The BC Wildfire Service is lifting the campfire prohibition for the Coastal Fire Centre starting at 12 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Category 2 (backyard burning) and Category 3 (industrial burning) open fires remain prohibited, which includes bonfires, fireworks, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, burn barrels, burn cages and air curtain burners.

Residents and visitors may once again have campfires where permitted; however, all campfires must be conducted safely and in accordance with local bylaws, regulations, and any remaining fire restrictions in effect.
Burning in North Saanich is only allowed with a permit, purchased from the North Saanich Fire Department:

Anyone lighting a campfire is responsible for ensuring it is fully extinguished before leaving the area. A campfire should never be left unattended, and sufficient water or tools should be readily available to control the fire.
The District encourages residents to use caution, remain aware of changing conditions, and check current fire restrictions before lighting any open fire.
