The campground on McDonald Road is part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. The McDonald Park Campground is named for Donald McDonald, a Scot who settled on 148 hectares in the area in 1873. He was a trustee of the first school in North Saanich, Justice of the Peace, and a director of the Agricultural Society.
