Voter Registration

VOTER REGISTRATION

The District utilizes the Provincial Voters List for conducting its election. To confirm you are on the List of Registered Electors for the District of North Saanich, please contact Elections BC at 250-387-5305 or by email at electionsbc@elections.bc.ca or on-line at www.elections.bc.ca/register-to-vote.

New registrations will be accepted on voting day. To register as a resident or non-resident elector, you must meet the following qualifications:
 

Resident Property Electors:

  • 18 years of age or older; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a resident of the District of North Saanich for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election and not otherwise disqualified by law.
  • Resident Electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove both residency and identity.

Non-Resident Property Electors:

  • 18 years of age or older; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a registered owner of real property in the District of North Saanich for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not eligible to register as a resident elector of the District of North Saanich; and
  • the only persons who are registered owners of the real property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election and not otherwise disqualified by law; and
  • if there is more than one registered owner of the property only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

Non-Resident Property Electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity and proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property. If there is more than one owner of the property on title written consent from the other property owners is required. This consent must be provided at the time of registration.

Acceptable Identification:

  • The following are examples of acceptable identification:
  • BC Driver’s Licence
  • BC Identification Card
  • BC Care Card
  • Social Insurance Card
  • Citizenship Card
  • Owner’s Certificate of Insurance & Vehicle Licence
  • Real Property Taxation Notice
  • Credit Card or Debit Card issued by a bank
  • Utility Bill (water, electrical, gas)
