The Advisory Planning Commission is an advisory commission to Council and consists of volunteers who live in North Saanich. Appointments to this Commission are made annually by the Municipal Council. The purpose of the Commission is to advise Council on various planning and land use issues referred to it by Council. Although meetings are open to the public, debates with applicants or members of the public over current issues usually occur at Committee of the Whole and other public forums rather than at Commission meetings. If the Advisory Planning Commission wishes to comment on a matter which has not been referred by Council, the Commission should request the Council Liaison to bring the matter to Council's attention. The Council can then determine whether it wishes to refer the matter.
The Advisory Planning Commission is made up of 7 regular members, 1 Council Liaison, and 1 Secretary. All members are appointed by Council and only regular members have voting privileges. At the first meeting of each year the Commission elects its own Chair and Vice Chair. The role of the Council Liaison is to represent the Municipal Council at Commission meetings and serve as a communication link between Council and the Commission. The Liaison presents Commission minutes to the Committee of the Whole and responds to questions from Council or Committee members regarding activities on the Commission.
Regular meetings are scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month and take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Hall Council Chambers at 1620 Mills Road unless otherwise noted. Site visits are normally held on Saturdays. The members of the Advisory Planning Commission are:
