Ruby grew up in Nelson B.C. She attended the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia before completing her Doctorate in Chiropractic in Toronto in 1989. Ruby ran a private Chiropractic practice from 1990 until 2005 first in Victoria and then in North Saanich.
Looking for a rural way of life for their children Robert and Kira, Ruby with her husband Ivan bought farmland in North Saanich in 1999 and then built a home and started an organic blueberry farm, Ruby Red Farms.
Ruby’s most recent community involvement has been with the Peninsula Agricultural Commission as North Saanich's representative. Ruby's volunteer work includes over 14 years of advocacy for children, youth and adults with special needs. She is a respected advisor to organizations such as Vancouver Island Health Authority, Ministry of Children and Family Development, Community Living BC and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research.
