Many
North Saanich
residents have joined the Adopt-a-Park program to enhance parks, beach accesses and trails. This successful volunteer program is providing the necessary neighbourhood support to protect our valuable recreational areas. You are invited to share responsibility for your parks, trails and beach accesses. Volunteers in the Adopt-a-Park program assist in building and maintaining trails and beach accesses, and in caring for municipal parks.
Individuals, business and community associations are also welcome to contribute their time, materials, services or funding to further development of our parks and trails.
If you are interested in committing time to enhance the District’s public parks, trails, and beach accesses, the Parks Commission would like to call upon you to submit a completed registration form in order to confirm your commitment to future activities with the Adopt-a-Park Program, and to update the District’s insurance coverage.
The Parks Commission would like to develop the volunteers as Park Wardens that could function in both or either of two task groups. The first being annual project oriented park/trail development and maintenance activities, and the second being continuing service as a park/trail monitor.
The annual projects such as trail resurfacing, park/trail development, or invasive species removal (Broom, English Ivy) is required only periodically, while park/trail monitoring should develop into a regular routine to report any maintenance, hazard, or vandalism concerns to the District's Works Superintendent.
Regular routine duties such as trail monitors may include the removal of litter and the reporting of maintenance and hazard concerns such as flooded trails or downed trees. All Wardens participating as monitors should not take action to resolve a situation they may encounter, but should report them to the Works Superintendent for a staff assessment. Frequency of monitoring would be at the discretion of the individual Warden.
The Parks Commission would also like to see indications from any volunteers who would be interested in a leadership role in organizing local areas or specific project areas. It would be encouraging to see the residents within each sub-community participate in activities in their own neighbourhoods.
Please contact the Works Superintendent, Brian Robinson if you wish more information on this worthy program.
