Water Rates:

The water user charge provides for the operation of the District’s water system and the purchase of bulk water. Water Utility rates for 2009 are $1.10 per cubic metre.

Parcels classed and assessed by the British Columbia Assessment Authority as 'Farm' shall be authorized to use municipal water for irrigation purposes.

Parcels qualifying under the special 'farm' rate described in Section 1 above shall be charged for water consumption as follows:

Farm with residence:

(a) For the first 152 cubic metres per tri-annual billing - $1.10 per cubic metre;

(b) For every cubic metre thereafter - $0.2060 per cubic metre.

Farms with no residence:

(a) For every cubic metre per calendar year - $0.2060 per cubic metre.

Water Service:

Most meters measure cubic meters but the Municipality uses gallons to show your Tri-annual consumption.  To convert: Cubic meters to gallons multiply X 220 (220 gallons in a cubic meter).

Flushing
Watermain:

The District performs a comprehensive watermain flushing program on an annual basis usually in the spring.

Normal consumption:

Consumption varies greatly from one house to the next, depending on the number of occupants and water usage habits. Lawn and garden watering, sprinkler systems and car washing can increase consumption considerably.

Typical winter consumption:

     - 1 or 2 occupants:               100 – 200 gal/day
     - 3 or 4 occupants:               150 – 250 gal/day

     - 5 or more occupants:          250 + gal/day

To check for leaks:

  • Check taps, toilets, etc. to ensure no water is running in the house
  • Read and record meter reading
  • Don’t use any water for an extended period of time such as overnight
  • Read and record meter reading again
  • If the meter has moved there may be a leak and the need to consult a plumber

Leak adjustment:

When leak has been repaired the customer must contact the Municipal Hall to request a new reading and customer is required to write letter requesting adjustment on water bill.  Repairs must be made to the satisfaction of the District.

When property Changes hands:

Phone Municipal Hall and request a “final meter reading” and supply Municipal hall with a forwarding address. Note that charges remain with the property when it is transferred. The new owner becomes responsible for these payments.

What if bills aren’t paid?

Unpaid water and sewer are carried forward to the next Utilities Invoice. Outstanding Utility Invoices at year end are automatically transferred to arrears of taxes and interest is added daily.

Water Restrictions:

Restrictions generally apply between May 1 – September 30 of each year.  More information provided by the Capital Regional District (CRD) Water Department Hot Line 250-474-9684.
