Throughout 2010 and 2011 the Development Permit Area No. 3 Wildfire Hazard underwent a review and  Public meetings were held.  After considering the input from residents, and after considering the input from a Professional Forester, who completed the North Saanich Community Wildfire Protection Plan, a revised map and revised guidelines were developed.  An amendment to the OCP was required given that the wildfire development permit area had been in the OCP since 2007.  A proposed OCP amending bylaw No. 1279 was drafted and Council gave two readings on October 17, 2011.  Subsequent to the Public Hearing held on January 16, 2012 Council defeated the proposed amending bylaw.
