Home Based Business

Home based businesses are small-scale businesses that are operated out of a person's home. Usually a portion of the home is set aside for an office where the business is run from.

Every home based business shall comply with the following requirements:

The activities shall be conducted entirely within the principal building or buildings or accessory building except where the activity involves horticulture;
The home-based business must not involve the outside storage of any materials used or produced by the business;
Only products produced on the premises may be displayed and sold;
The maximum area used by a home-based business may not exceed 20% of the gross floor area up to a maximum of 46 m2 (495 ft2);
The total maximum area used by a home-based business in an accessory building or buildings shall not exceed 46 m2 (495 ft2);
The total display area for any exterior signage is limited to a maximum of 0.2 m2 (2.15 ft2);
The home-based business may only be operated by the resident of the dwelling unit;
Only one-full time or two-part time employees are permitted to work on the premises;
The home-based business may not discharge or emit odors, vapours, heat, glare, electrical interference or radiation, ground vibration, noise;
Parking as required by the Zoning By-law must be provided;
NO automobile, boat or other machinery servicing repair is permitted as a home-based occupation.
